5 Alarming Signs for Replacing Fuel Filter

Apart from the customary
smog check in Rancho Cucamonga, it’s quite obvious and very easy to neglect the fuel filters of your vehicle. However, you'll have to regret it if you do. The purpose of this article is to let you know how to protect your fuel supply system and continue with a smooth ride. There are two fuel filters in maximum vehicles- one is in the fuel tank, often called a strainer, priced in the range of $25 to $100, and one in the main fuel line, normally less than $20. The filter material is made of plastic or coated pleated paper. Fuel filters are created to restrict rust, dirt, scale, and other impurities from getting inside the fuel pump, fuel injectors, and engine, without affecting fuel pressure.

It has been observed that during smog service in Rancho Cucamonga gasoline fuel filters are rated in microns. Maximum contemporary vehicles with fuel-injection systems utilize filters rated between 10 and 30 microns. One micron is .001mm. Comparatively, human hair is almost 70 microns or .08mm. This is crucial as modern engines have extremely tight fuel systems and engine component tolerances. Because of their corrosive nature, merged with the high fuel pressure of fuel-injected engines, all foreign particles that get past a defective or dirty fuel filter may lead to blockages to interrupt the fuel supply and harm your engine.

  1. 1. Hard Starting

If it isn’t blocked completely, a bad fuel filter will hardly keep your engine from starting. If the fuel filter of a vehicle has never been altered, the dirty filter may lead to inconsistent fuel flow, leading to longer than usual cranking before the engine starts. Go through your owner’s manual and read about filter replacement intervals.

  1. 2. Poor Engine Performance

Due to heavy loads, a clogged fuel filter may lead to the random hesitation of the engine apart from surging or sputtering. This becomes more prominent during acceleration, particularly up a steep incline. Although there couldn’t be any symptoms under usual driving conditions, a clogged fuel filter will starve the engine of the additional fuel required during quick acceleration. It depends on the extent of the fuel restriction caused due to a dirty filter. An engine may shake or stutter at various speeds as well.

  1. 3. Stalling

An engine that frequently stalls during a drive could be cautioning you of a dirty fuel filter. Based depending on the acuteness of the clog, your vehicle may begin right back up without any apparent loss of power. While the clog deteriorates and fuel delivery becomes more infrequent, stalling becomes extreme or worsens on acceleration. Possibly the filter is getting entirely clogged and it’s time for a replacement.

  1. 4. Random Misfire or Rough Idle

A congested fuel filter leads to low fuel pressure resulting in a lean fuel condition and engine misfire leading to poor fuel mileage, uneven idling, and probably causing the check engine light to come on. If that light is on, it’s time for a free check engine light diagnosis of the car.

  1. 5. Fuel System Part Failures

A restricted fuel filter can make a fuel pump noisy, damaged, or fail. A choked fuel filter prevents the proper quantity of fuel from reaching the engine. The fuel pump will attempt to compensate for a bad fuel filter, imposing excessive pressure on the fuel pump motor and leading to the premature failure of the pump. Contaminates getting past a dirty fuel filter can damage, congest or lead to the leakage of a fuel injector, causing all sorts of engine drivability problems. Unless it failed completely, replacing a dirty fuel filter and servicing or flushing the injectors by the experts should get you back on the road with minimal expense.

Inference

If you have doubts about the fuel filter, then you can visit any of the leading smog test centers in California to know its exact status, and whether it needs replacement or not.
